Daylight & Sunlight Assessments
With increasing demand for housing many schemes are being proposed in areas that are already heavily developed. Such schemes may be affected by a reduction in daylight or sunlight that could impact upon the health and wellbeing of future residents. Many Local Authorities are therefore requesting a daylight and sunlight report to be submitted with potentially impacted schemes.
Our consultants are experienced in producing detailed reports following approved methodology set out in the Building Research Establishment (BRE) Document ‘Site Layout Planning for Daylight and Sunlight: A guide to good practice (2011). Our reports are based upon regional weather data and typically address the following issues:
- Daylight to Windows Test:
- Vertical Sky Component (VSC)
- Daylight Distribution / No Sky Line
- Average Daylight Factor
- Room Depth
- Sunlight to Windows:
- Annual Probable Sunlight Hours (APSH)
- Overshadowing: Overshadowing to Gardens and Open Spaces
