Energy Evaluation were instructed by DLP Planning Ltd on behalf of their clients to investigate various sustainable energy solutions for four large bungalows. Prior to investigating possible low carbon technologies consideration was given to the impact of orientation and shading on the proposed dwellings. A technical report was supplied to DLP Planning Ltd as part of the overall planning submission.

EDSL Tas (Dynamic Simulation) was used to predict the potential solar gain through the year and the likely reducton of beneficial solar gain during the winter-time as a result of shading. The assessment indicated that the relocation of the garage from the north to the south side of the dwelling could reduce the beneficial solar gain by around 20% during the winter months heating season.
